New Technologies

This page gathers some ideas for mutimedia, richmedia, e-commerce that were destined for on demand content streaming and that can be broadcasted to mobile devices such as Digital Radio or Wifi PDAs or laptops. They are designed for large screens playing and can accommodate low bandwidth networks.

RADIO INNOVATION PROGRAM

Digital Radio Concept

In 2004, I have designed a richmedia concept which was very innovative at the time.

The concept was to offer an interactive radio-like stream of multimedia commercial clips. The DMB technology allows many controls to be embedded in the flux. For example, locking or unlocking the commands, providing links that the user may use to connect back to the radio station for votes or to buy an item or book a ticket, etc. Many information (metadata) is transmitted as well as CVs of the speaker, subtitles, translations, etc.

As some devices have a recording feature, the content can also control the recording, deciding when to stop, when not to record for copyright preservation, automatic suppression of unwanted content, etc...

Such content can be played on some mobile DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) devices that have been developed in Korea and have not been distributed in the UK. Tests have been done by a French University to broadcast this type of content using the DAB or DMB technology.

Now the concept works well on a PC. Wimax is also an ideal technology to support this type of content. Now in 2009, the progress made in video compression and 3D allows considering much improved quality and modern design standards.

Due to regulation in the UK for Digital Radio Broadcasting, it is not possible to transmit this content as it is mainly composed of data. Therefore, other transmission medium can be considered (DMB, Wifi, WiMax, 4G, etc).
